Eric S. Ackerman, Ph.D. is currently Assistant Dean and Director of Graduate Programs at Nova Southeastern University's Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences. He holds an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering, Master's in Information Science, and Doctorate in Information Systems and Science. His commitment to the engineering and information sciences field spans 22 years and includes 14 years of teaching college engineering and information science courses at a ABET program in the State of Florida college system. Dr. Ackerman has been involved in various engineering projects in the area of computing and design of hardware systems. One of his biggest accomplishments was the design of the computer system for a scientific payload on the Space Shuttle - STS-91 (June 2, 1998 - G-743). The experiment launched on Space Shuttle Discovery June 2, 1998 and returned June 12, 1998. This payload was the first in the state of Florida to be developed at a community college. He has been actively involved with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) from 1992 to now in various roles and has just served as the general chairman of SoutheastCon 2005 and is currently the Region 3 representative for all student activities and webmaster. Dr. Ackerman is also the webmaster for Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) International Honor Society for the Computing and Information Disciplines, IEEE Region 3, and IEEE Florida Council.

Statement – I am proud to accept the nomination for Director of Region 3. IEEE deserves the best and I am fully capable of doing all that it takes to represent you within the region and beyond.
If elected, my goals for Region 3 are:
- Find new ways to increase membership value within IEEE.
- Continue the prudent ways of the recent directors in financial responsibility.
- Support professional activities that will meet the needs of engineers both in industry and academia.
- Establish ways to keep a larger percentage of student members after graduation involved with IEEE.
- Establish new ways of communicating with the general membership within the region.
- Enhance publicity for region award recipients.
Ensure that Region 3 continues to be one of the premier regions.
